Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi on Wednesday held a high-level virtual review meeting with Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials and private concessionaires to assess sanitation arrangements across the Capital. He directed agencies to speed up deployment of additional resources and machines in areas where cleanliness standards remain poor.

The meeting, held virtually from the Civic Centre, was attended by Deputy Mayor Monica Pant, MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar, senior engineering officials, deputy commissioners from all 12 zones and concessionaires handling waste collection across the city.

During the review, concessionaires briefed the Mayor and civic officials on existing waste management infrastructure, availability of machinery and manpower, and challenges in maintaining sanitation standards across Delhi.

Expressing concern over sanitation conditions in some zones, Wahi said visible improvement on the ground was essential and asked agencies to accelerate deployment of additional equipment and operational resources. He said the MCD had already prepared a ward-wise sanitation plan and stressed that concessionaires must align machinery and manpower accordingly for better implementation.

The Mayor said improving sanitation standards in every ward and ensuring timely execution of development plans remained among the civic administration’s top priorities.

He also assured concessionaires that the Corporation would ensure timely payments, provided cleanliness levels showed consistent and measurable improvement across zones.

Pant stressed the need for stronger coordination between civic officials and concessionaires, particularly in densely populated and sensitive areas where sanitation challenges are more visible.

The meeting ended with directions from the Mayor for continuous monitoring, efficient use of resources and greater public participation to improve cleanliness standards across Delhi.

Later, Mayor Wahi inspected Rajendra Nagar and directed officials to speed up beautification work at Sindhi Park while maintaining quality standards.

He reviewed sanitation arrangements at Mangal Bazaar Road, flagged delays in road restoration after Delhi Jal Board excavation work and called for better coordination among agencies.

The Mayor also inspected mechanised cleaning equipment and interacted with local residents on civic issues.

Amid the heat wave, Wahi distributed water bottles and ORS packets to sanitation workers and directed officials to ensure heat protection measures for field staff.
