After the sanitation workers ended their strike, newly elected Mayor Rajiv Jain and MLA Nikhil Madaan were seen in action mode on Sonepat roads to ensure cleanliness in the city.
Jain, along with the MC sanitation team, reached the railway station road late Thursday night to clean the piled-up garbage heaps. After staying for over two hours at the railway road till the garbage was picked up from there, Jain moved to the main market, ‘Kachey Quarter,’ to clean it.
Jain directed the sanitation wing officials to remove the garbage from the city within three days.
Notably, there was no place in the city where the heaps of garbage were not piled up. The people were also badly harassed due to the garbage piled up on the roads, but the striking employees were adamant about their demands.
Jain directed sanitation inspectors Sunder Malik and Krishan Kumar to pick up the garbage from all dumping points and to spread the lime powder everywhere. Jain also appealed to the residents to be patient and assured them that the garbage would be lifted properly.
On the other hand, MLA Nikhil Madaan reached Kalupur Chungi on Friday morning to meet the sanitation workers and review the cleanliness works.
MLA Madaan said the sanitation workers have been on strike since May 1 due to the sanitation work being derailed and the garbage has been piled up on all roads and streets in the city. Now, the state government has assured to fulfil their demands after which the sanitation workers have ended their strike, he said. Now, the cleanliness work would come on track again, he said.
Madaan said illegal garbage dumping points would be shut and also directed the MC officials that the sanitation work would be reviewed regularly.
