Reinforcing its commitment to women’s safety and empowerment, the Delhi Police’s Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC) has successfully concluded its 22nd Self Defence Summer Camp 2026, which saw participation from more than 2,100 girls and women across four venues in the national capital.
The camp was held from May 29 to June 11 and aimed to equip participants with self-defence skills while also raising awareness on issues related to women’s safety, cybercrime, legal rights, mental health and personal development.
Closing ceremonies were held simultaneously at all four venues on Thursday and were attended by senior SPUWAC officers.
During the two-week programme, participants received practical training in self-defence techniques and attended sessions on cyber safety, legal awareness, personality development, mental health and other life skills. The camp also included a range of educational, recreational and fitness activities.
Addressing the participants, senior officers praised the enthusiasm shown by the campers and highlighted the importance of self-defence as a tool for personal safety and empowerment.
“They emphasised the importance of self defence as an effective tool for personal safety and empowerment.”
The closing ceremony featured self-defence demonstrations and cultural performances by participants, showcasing the skills they had acquired during the camp. Certificates were distributed to all participants upon successful completion of the programme.
“Saplings were also distributed to participants to promote environmental awareness and encourage plantation activities.”
SPUWAC thanked school authorities, parents, volunteers and other stakeholders for their support in making the initiative a success.
According to Delhi Police, the successful conduct of the camp reflects its commitment towards the safety, security and empowerment of women and children in the city.
