In preparation for the upcoming Kanwar Yatra, the Delhi Government has reconstituted its Kanwar Committee, appointing Culture and Law Minister Kapil Mishra as its chairperson to oversee arrangements for the annual pilgrimage.

Announcing the decision, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the committee would coordinate efforts to ensure a smooth, safe and well organised Kanwar Yatra across the national capital.

Five BJP MLAs, Ajay Mahawar, Anil Sharma, Karnail Singh, Sanjay Goel and Umang Bajaj have been inducted as members of the panel.

The Chief Minister said, “This year too, devotion and service will set new benchmarks.” She also announced that the Delhi Government would provide special assistance to Kanwar camps to improve facilities for devotees during the holy month of Shravan.

Describing the significance of the pilgrimage, Gupta said, “The Kanwar Yatra is not merely a traditional religious event, but a grand celebration of India’s rich cultural heritage, social harmony and public faith.” She added that the large gathering of Shiva devotees on Delhi’s streets during Shravan reflected the country’s cultural unity.

The Chief Minister further said arrangements for the Kanwar Yatra had evolved beyond routine administration and now represented a symbol of service and devotion in the capital. The government’s objective, she said, was to ensure that every Kanwariya entering Delhi was treated as an honoured guest and provided with the best possible facilities and services.

According to government, the newly constituted committee will soon hold review meetings with district magistrates, Delhi Police, the Public Works Department, the Health Department and other agencies.
