Run for Peace is Malaysia's largest peace-themed event, offering a vibrant platform where Malaysians from diverse ethnics diversity, cultural & religious backgrounds goes far beyond the finish line. It's not just a one-day event - it's a growing, grassroots movement inspired by United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is organized by Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) as culmination of passionate & community-led efforts for Malaysia MADANI that could activate change, educate, and empower individuals - especially youth and students to inculcate meaningful action. Run for Peace in KL held at Malaysian Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) Square was officiated & flag off by YB Senator Saraswathy Kandasamy, Deputy Minister of National Unity, said “The event slogan ‘Peace starts with me’ for every participants reflecting the SGM's philosophy that a positive change within the individual is the basis of a transformation in society. It is a realistic manifestation of empowerment & a reminder that actions of each one of us can make an important contribution to creating harmony & peace in our families, schools, workplaces, communities, countries & the world at large.”
In his welcoming remarks, SGM General Director Koh Sia Feai, said “Every two years, people around Malaysia don their Run for Peace T-shirts and head out to meet new people, make new friends and run together to highlight the importance of peace. It is a noncompetitive sports for runs over distances of usually between 3 to 10 kilometers that really encourage people from all walks of life, particularly young people, to come together for the sake of peace.”
My wife, Zarina & I joined the 11,000 enthusiastic participants in a family-friendly activity at MAEPS Square that comprised of children, young and senior citizens including the privileged people (OKU) on the wheelchairs. We celebrated the real value of community relationship with a common wish for peace.
