KUALA LUMPUR – Lee Zii Jia inches closer to securing back-to-back World Tour titles as he advanced to the Denmark Open final.

The 25-year-old, fresh from winning the Arctic Open in Finland, faced little resistance from the 18th-ranked Lee Cheuk Yiu in the men’s singles semi-final match at the Jyske Bank Arena this morning.

The 11th-ranked independent shuttler took 43 minutes to triumph 21-15, 21-17 over his Chinese Taipei opponent.

In tomorrow’s final, he will be facing China’s Weng Hong Yang, who defeated his counterpart Shi Yu Qi 21-19, 21-14 in a bid to improve from his runner-up position in the previous edition.

Joining the Kedahan in the finals is the top national pair, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, who booked their spot in the final after they sent hosts Kim Astrup-Anders Rasmussen packing.

The former world champions slogged for 56 minutes to register a 16-21, 21-15, 21-15 win over their sixth-ranked opponents.

This marked their sixth victory against the Danes in a total of nine encounters.

Aaron-Wooi Yik, yet to earn a World Tour title to their names, will clash against Muhammad Shohibul Fikri-Bagas Maulana, in the final.

The Indonesian duo fought hard to defeat their counterparts Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Rian Ardianto, 21-11, 16-21, 21-12, in another semi-final match. – October 22, 2023
