Denmark’s former queen, Margrethe II, has been discharged from hospital following heart problems.
She is now returning to Fredensborg Palace, the Royal House announced in a statement on Tuesday.
Last week, the former Danish monarch was admitted to hospital in Copenhagen with angina pectoris – chest pain caused by a disruption in the blood supply to the heart. She had to undergo a procedure to widen her blood vessels.
The statement from the Royal Household said that Margrethe now needs rest. She has therefore had to cancel a visit to a theatre scheduled for Saturday.
Margrethe celebrated her 86th birthday in mid-April. In early 2024 she unexpectedly abdicated and, after 52 years as Denmark’s head of state, handed the throne over to her son, King Frederik X.
