A dentist was allegedly assaulted after a group of individuals attempted to take possession of a clinic located outside the Civil Hospital in Phagwara on Tuesday.

The incident took place around noon at Janjua Dental Clinic, where a dispute over the premises reportedly led to a scuffle. Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

Dr Ajay Pal Singh Janjua stated that he had been operating a dental clinic out of the premises for the past 21 years as a tenant of a UK-based owner and paid a monthly rent of Rs 11,500. He said repair work, including flooring and tile replacement, was being carried out at the clinic after obtaining permission from a relative of the property owner.

According to Dr Janjua, while he was present at another clinic in Rehana Jattan, five to six persons arrived at the clinic in Chahal Nagar and allegedly threatened workers to stop the repair work. He claimed the individuals asserted that they were the owners of the property and that an advance agreement for the premises had already been executed in their favour.

The dentist alleged that when he asked them to provide documentary proof of their claim, they failed to do so, following which an argument ensued. The dispute escalated over attempts to lock the clinic premises, resulting in a physical confrontation and alleged assault. The matter was subsequently reported to the police.

Later in the day, a delegation of dental practitioners met the Superintendent of Police and demanded strict action against the alleged attackers. A case has been registered and further investigation is being carried out.
