The German Football Federation (DFB) will decide on the future of national team coach Julian Nagelsmann after the return from the World Cup, president Bernd Neuendorf said on Tuesday.
Four-time champions Germany were ousted 4-3 on penalties by Paraguay in the round of 32 on Monday, a result only marginally better than group stage exits in 2018 and 2022.
Neuendorf said in a DFB statement that he had talks with Nagelsmann, managing director Andreas Rettig and sporting director Rudi Völler after the match and that "we all agree that our performance at the World Cup did not meet our expectations."
But he said the DFB won't rush to a decision on the future of Nagelsmann, who has a contract until 2028.
"Over the coming days, we will calmly and collectively examine the reasons why the team was unable to realize its potential and fell short of both its own expectations and those of football-loving Germany," Neuendorf said.
"After such a severe setback, and with the challenges ahead, we cannot and will not simply carry on as if nothing happened."
The German delegation was set to leave the United States later Tuesday, with players to travel individually.
