Penang KPDN reports eight diesel misappropriation cases and over RM400,000 in seizures under Ops Tiris 4.0, with five drivers detained for investigations.

BUTTERWORTH: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living in Penang has recorded eight diesel misappropriation cases since January. Seizures under Ops Tiris 4.0 are valued at over RM415,877.

Its director, S. Jegan, said all cases involved raids on illegal storage sites in Seberang Perai Selatan. Five lorry drivers, aged in their 30s and 40s, were detained for investigations under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

During the same period, a total of 215 petrol stations in the state were inspected. Jegan stated this was part of ongoing enforcement and monitoring efforts.

He added that 126 petrol stations were thoroughly monitored for compliance with the RON95 ban for foreign vehicles. The ban began yesterday.

The department also received four complaints related to subsidised fuel irregularities. Two involved filling RON95 into containers, while two concerned suspicious petrol station activities.

“Upon investigation, three of the complaints were found to be unfounded,” Jegan said. One case involving diesel remains under regular monitoring by the Penang KPDN.

KPDN has enhanced its preparedness by deploying 135 officers at strategic locations. This is in addition to continuous patrolling, intelligence gathering, and special enforcement operations.

Integrated operations with other enforcement bodies are also being conducted.
