TAWAU: An attempt to conceal 650 litres of subsidised diesel believed intended for the black market was uncovered following a raid by the General Operations Force (GOF) Battalion 14 Tawau at Kg Ulu Brantian, Kalabakan, on Monday night.
The raid, carried out at about 8.14pm at an unnumbered house in an oil palm plantation, led to the discovery of 650 litres of subsidised diesel, with the total value of the seized items estimated at RM20,000.
Also seized were an Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) tank, a two-horsepower water pump and approximately 27 metres of fuel hose.
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sabah confirmed on Tuesday that the seized items had been handed over by GOF Battalion 14 Tawau to the Tawau branch of KPDN for further action.
KPDN Sabah said an investigation paper had been opened under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, which provides for enforcement against the diversion, hoarding and smuggling of subsidised and controlled goods to safeguard consumers’ interests.
The ministry also issued a stern warning to individuals and companies against hoarding controlled or subsidised goods, urging them to comply with the country’s laws.
“It said offenders could face action under the Act, with individuals convicted of a first offence liable to a fine of up to RM1 million.
“For a second or subsequent offence, individuals may be fined up to RM3 million, jailed for up to three years, or both. Companies found guilty of a first offence may be fined up to RM2 million, while subsequent offences carry fines of up to RM5 million,” said in the KPDN statement here on Tuesday.
KPDN reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with other enforcement agencies to combat the misappropriation of controlled and subsidised goods, while ensuring firm action is taken against those who violate the law.
