MALAYSIA is bolstering its digital infrastructure and communications ecosystem, with the Ministry of Communications receiving RM2.56 billion under Budget 2026 to expand nationwide high-speed internet and enhance media literacy, Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said.
Speaking at the opening of the Global Public Relations Conference and Festival Malaysia (GPRCFMY) 2025 at the World Trade Centre today, Fahmi highlighted initiatives such as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission’s JENDELA Phase 2, which will deploy over 2,700 new sites to bridge the digital divide, and the RM350 million upgrade of Pusat Sebaran Maklumat Nasional (NADI) centres to serve as community hubs for verified information and digital inclusion.
Addressing an audience including industry professionals and members of the media, Fahmi praised the Public Relations Practitioners Society of Malaysia (PRactitioners) for uniting regional communicators since its launch in July 2024.
“To effectively combat misinformation, the Malaysian Media Council and the Online Safety Act play a pivotal role in strengthening the integrity of our national information ecosystem,” he said.
“These frameworks underscore the government’s commitment to ensuring a credible, transparent, and secure digital environment for all Malaysians, while safeguarding the public from the threats of misinformation and disinformation.”
Fahmi also called on communications professionals to uphold ethics, transparency, and humanity in messaging, emphasising the conference theme “Humanity Amplified.”
He urged the sector to mentor new talent, acknowledge synthetic content, and leverage communications as a tool of soft power.
“Communications are our soft power. Through your stories, the world will see a Malaysia that is progressive, inclusive, and confident,” he said. - November 13, 2025
