DIGP Ayob Khan to retire after nearly 35 years of service

DEPUTY Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay has announced that he will retire on Sunday, ending a nearly 35-year career in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

Describing his years in the force as a long and fulfilling journey, Ayob Khan said he intends to devote his immediate post-retirement years to taking a well-earned rest.

"God willing, this Sunday will be my final day in the force after serving with the police for nearly 35 years," he told a press conference following the launch of his biography, From Pendang to Bukit Aman: A Trail of Integrity, at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club here today.

Ayob Khan has held several of the police force's most senior operational appointments, serving as Johor Police Chief, Director of the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID), and Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), before being appointed Deputy Inspector-General of Police in June 2023.

Reflecting on life after retirement, Ayob Khan joked that he might pursue an entirely different path by opening a mamak restaurant.

"After this, you might see me wearing a sarong and a sleeveless vest while flipping roti canai," he said.

He revealed that he has already received several offers for his post-retirement career but has yet to make any decisions.

"I've received a number of offers, but I haven't given them much thought yet. God willing, I intend to focus on taking a break first.

"After this, there may be another book written in greater detail, covering the operations I was involved in, to share those experiences with the public," he said. - July 24, 2026
