Dimasalang Bridge operational by Oct. 20 – DPWH

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said that Dimasalang Bridge in Manila, which has been under rehabilitation since June, will reopen on Oct. 20.

“We will open this very soon. Hopefully, in the next two weeks. Our target for the reopening is Oct. 20,” said Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon, adding repair works on the bridge were expedited because of its importance to traffic in the area.

The bridge is near the Manila North Cemetery, making it crucial to traffic during the coming All Saints’ Day.

Dizon said the bridge will open to vehicles even if works on some parts are still ongoing.

He thanked Manila Mayor Isko Moreno for allowing the total closure of the bridge to accelerate its rehabilitation.

“To our fellow citizens in the City of Manila, especially those who have relatives they will visit at the North Cemetery during Undas, rest assured that before Undas, we will be open. We will open on Oct. 20,” Dizon said.

Dizon said that the rehabilitation of Dimasalang Bridge, completed in four and a half months, was proof that DPWH projects can be completed quickly without sacrificing quality.

“I want to prove that it can be done. As long as we take the work seriously, we don’t do substandard work, and the construction is done properly,” Dizon said.

He said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. wants government efforts to be felt by Filipinos through such projects.
