A meal at a popular eatery in a KL mall took a horrifying turn after a diner claimed she found what appeared to be baby cockroaches crawling among raw meat on her plate.

A Threads user shared the incident, expressing shock and disgust at the discovery, especially after spotting the insects while she was already hungry and ready to eat.

“It’s traumatising! Before eating, check your food first,” she warned fellow diners

The complaint soon prompted a follow-up inspection by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) through its Sanitation Unit under the Titiwangsa Zone 5 Health Office, Department of Health and Environment.

What officers found inside the premises only made the situation more concerning. The officer inspected the kitchen and found more cockroaches inside, including on the oil bottle and the fridge door.

Following the inspection, the eatery was ordered to close from 26 August until 9 September under the Food Establishment Licensing By-Laws (WPKL) 2016.

The eatery closed temporarily for cleaning, and mall management also responded

DBKL said the closure is intended to give the operator time to carry out corrective measures and thoroughly clean the premises. The authority also stressed that it remains committed to ensuring food establishments across Kuala Lumpur comply with public health and hygiene requirements to protect residents’ safety and well-being.

Meanwhile, the mall management said it takes food hygiene and safety seriously.

In a post on Threads, the mall said its operations team immediately went to the outlet after receiving the complaint and conducted an inspection together with the tenant. The mall said it is taking further action and will continue monitoring the situation closely.

For diners, the incident is more than just an unpleasant sight. It is a stark reminder of how quickly a normal meal can become a nightmare.
