Hotpot horror show after diner spots baby roaches

Kuala Lumpur: A diner was left horrified after allegedly spotting what appeared to be baby cockroaches crawling among raw meat at a popular hotpot buffet outlet in a Kuala Lumpur mall.

The diner, @aqilahmaria_, shared her experience on Threads, warning fellow diners to check their food before eating.

She described the discovery as traumatising, saying she had been hungry and ready to eat when she noticed the insects.

Following the viral complaint, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) instructed the Sanitation Unit of the Titiwangsa Zone 5 Health Office, under its Department of Health and Environment, to conduct an inspection.

During the inspection, officers reportedly found more cockroaches on the premises, including on an oil bottle and a refrigerator door.

The eatery was subsequently ordered to close from Aug 26 to Sept 9 under the Food Establishment Licensing By-Laws (WPKL) 2016 to allow cleaning and corrective measures to be carried out.

Meanwhile, the mall management said it took food hygiene and safety seriously, adding that its operations team immediately inspected the outlet together with the tenant after receiving the complaint.

The management said further action would be taken and the situation would continue to be monitored.
