Kota Kinabalu: A 23-year-old man was sentenced to six months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for disposing of a stolen laptop.

Among Ajimudin pleaded guilty before Senior Assistant Registrar Abdurrahman Abrar Jarni, who sat as a magistrate, to selling the gadget at 1am on Dec 15, 2021 at Kg Numbak, Manggatal.

Among committed the offence under Section 414 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both on conviction, along with another accomplice.

Inspector Albert Basiri prosecuting, told the court that Among sold the laptop for RM120.

In another case, a 19-year-old man was fined RM2,000 or five months in jail for engaging in an online gambling activity using handphone in public.

Al Nazree Zurizal admitted to committing the offence at 6.55pm on Aug 9, 2021 at a Serai Wangi grocery shop, Puri Warisan Inanam.

The court heard from the prosecution that the police went to the premises following a public tip-off on gambling activity and saw a man, later identified as Nazree at the counter.

A check on Nazree found the gambling paraphernalia and RM755 cash which were later seized.

Nazree who was not represented requested for a lower fine as he has no one to pay for his expenses.

He was charged under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953 which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months in jail or both on conviction.

Meanwhile, a 33-year-old Indonesian man was charged with threatening his wife.

Lorenzius Ola was accused of committing the offence towards his 28-year-old wife at noon on Feb 2, this year at the KKIP workers’ house in Sepanggar.

No plea was recorded from Lorenzius, who appeared before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles via video conferencing.

The charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven year or a fine or both on conviction.

The court set Feb 28 for Lorenzius’ plea be taken in open court.
