Settlement of a 19-year-long legal dispute in progress through mediation at Rewari.

A dispute that remained pending for 19 years has been resolved through mediation at the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Centre, Rewari, marking a significant achievement under the Supreme Court’s nationwide “Samadhan Samaroh” campaign.

The case, which had traversed various judicial forums over nearly two decades and was pending before the Supreme Court, was settled amicably after a series of mediation sessions.

The matter, Sanjogita and others vs Dharamchand (deceased) through LRs and others, pertained to an ancestral property dispute between a brother and a sister and was pending before the Supreme Court.

The agreement brought an end to prolonged litigation and provided much-needed relief to both parties.

Dr Renu Solkhe, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Rewari, said the Supreme Court launched the “Samadhan Samaroh” initiative to facilitate the resolution of long-pending disputes through mediation, dialogue and mutual consent.

The campaign focuses on identifying cases with settlement potential and ensuring quicker, more accessible justice for the litigants.

She said the successful settlement highlights the growing effectiveness of mediation as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism.

Mediator Anuradha played a key role in facilitating discussions and helping the parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement.

Dr Solkhe described the initiative as a people-centric step towards reducing case pendency and promoting speedy justice. She noted that mediation and Lok Adalats offer litigants a cost-effective and time-efficient means of resolving disputes while preserving relationships and fostering harmony between parties.

Encouraging the citizens to make greater use of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, she emphasized that awards passed by Lok Adalats are final and binding, with no provision for appeal, and that court fees deposited in such cases are refunded as per rules.
