Kota Kinabalu: District offices, as agencies closest to grassroots communities, must ensure their officers and technical teams work systematically without unnecessary bureaucracy, said Kuamut Assemblyman Datuk Masiung Banah.
He said district offices played a critical role in ensuring rural development projects were coordinated efficiently and with integrity.
Masiung said delays in rural projects were often linked to weaknesses in governance, bureaucracy and delays in land matters, although contractors could also contribute to such issues.
He said district officers and technical teams should regularly go to the ground to monitor the physical progress of projects, while technical officers should reduce bureaucracy and focus on project timelines.
Masiung was speaking at the Tongod District Office Excellent Service Award ceremony at a hotel here, yesterday, where six officers and staff received awards, including Zainal Abdul Hamid as the APC recipient and Chief Clerk Robin Lampakas, who will retire at the end of the year, as the Mutiara Jubilee recipient.
