DE LA SALLE University captured an important win, taking a second straight victory over Arellano University, 25-21, 25-21, 25-20, in the 2026 V-League Collegiate Challenge on Saturday at Gameville Central Park in Mandaluyong City.
With just a one-point lead, 16–15, heading into the endgame, the Green Spikers leaned on their net defense to deny the Chiefs a comeback and eventually finish the match in one hour and 21 minutes.
Cameroonian outside hitter Issa Ousseini was all over the stat sheet with 18 points, built on 14 attacks and four blocks, leading the way in giving new head coach Babes Castillo a homecoming gift.
“All the games, whether we win or lose, we’re just trying to make all the systems work. We’re trying to perfect it every day. Our team is 30 percent seniors and 30 percent juniors, so there’s a gap. I told them, let’s clear our responsibilities. If we know our responsibilities, that will be the common denominator,” said Castillo.
Rui Ventura continued his impressive showing from the right pin, finishing with 13 points, including five of the squad’s 17 blocks. Libero Jules Serrano was also solid from the back, recording 12 digs and 11 excellent receptions.
The Green Spikers, now at 2–1, will shoot for a third consecutive win when they take on the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights (3–1) the next day at 12 p.m.
CJ Dominguito single-handedly carried the Chiefs, who suffered back-to-back losses to fall to an even 2–2 record, with 18 points.
Arellano will try to arrest its skid when it takes on defending champion Far Eastern University on Sept. 13 at 5 p.m., still at the same Mandaluyong hub.
