DMCI Mining Corp., a wholly owned nickel mining subsidiary of DMCI Holdings, Inc., achieved record output in 2025 with nickel ore production reaching 2.0 million wet metric tons (WMT), up 33 percent from the previous year’s 1.5 million WMT.
Shipments also rose 31 percent year-on-year to 1.9 million WMT, second-highest level on record, the company said on Sunday.
DMCI Mining attributed the improved outcomes to increased production from its Zambales mine and the start of initial operations of its Long Point mine in Palawan.
DMCI Mining President Tulsi Das Reyes expressed confidence in the company’s growth outlook and said the improvement of the nickel industry’s fundamentals following a challenging period was an encouraging development.
“The combination of our record production, strong prices, and the continued progress of our Long Point development gives us solid growth prospects, both for the company and for our host communities,” he said.
In 2025, the average benchmark prices for 1.5 percent-grade Philippine free-on-board (FOB) laterite nickel ore increased by 26 percent to $45.70 from $36.30 in the previous year.
DMCI Mining also reported that its subsidiary, Berong Nickel Corp. in Palawan, surpassed its rehabilitation targets for year three of the plan, with over 174 hectares rehabilitated to date.
The mine’s rehabilitation was undertaken following the country’s first approved Final Mine Rehabilitation and Decommissioning Plan (FMDRP) for a nickel mine.
DMCI said the rehabilitation project was on track for completion next year, after which the area would be turned over to the government to fulfill the company’s obligations under the FMRDP.
Subsidiary, Zambales Diversified Mining Corp., meanwhile, was said to have received its second Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award last November in recognition of the latter’s dedication to safety and environmental protection, which aligns with the government’s push for responsible and sustainable mining.
Apart from the Berong mine in Palawan and Zambales Diversified Mining, DMCI Mining’s assets also include Zambales Chromite Mining Co.
DMCI Mining ships nickel ore mainly to China and other countries.
Shares of parent firm DMCI Holdings closed up 01.68 percent on Friday at 10.90 each.
