'Do not wait too long' — Tok Mat on Melaka election

KUALA LUMPUR – Melaka Umno must be prepared to face the Melaka state election, which could be held at any time.

Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said that Umno nationwide is ready to mobilise all its strength to assist the party machine in the state.

"The Melaka state election will be held at any time. It is up to Datuk Rauf (Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh).

"Do not wait too long. If you wait too long, someone else will take it (he joked).

"Datuk Rauf, we are ready. We (Umno nationwide) will come to assist Melaka. Do it properly, cooperate well. Ensure complete unity, negotiate without conflict," he said.

He said this during the officiation speech for the 2026 Umno General Assembly (PAU) for the Umno Women, Youth, and Puteri wings at the Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre (WTC) here on Wednesday.

Mohamad said that Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) must maintain their momentum of success across the states in preparation for the 16th General Election (GE16).

Rauf previously hinted that the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly might take place within the next "two Fridays".

When met by reporters following the officiation ceremony of the 2026 Umno assembly, Rauf noted that his party welcomes any negotiations, including after the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly.
