Having a meal with your spouse is often a memory most couples would treasure for life, but for one woman, it instead traumitised her.
Taking to social media to recount the incident, the woman shared how one addition to her order caused her husband to blow his top and berate her in public.
Got angry over mushroom soup
According to mStar, the woman wrote that she and her husband were having dinner at a restaurant when she added a RM5 mushroom soup to her order.
“It was just an ordinary dish, but when the order arrived, my husband said something which really hurt me.
He said: ‘What did you order this for? Do you think your husband earns thousands (of Ringgit)?’ If you were in my shoes, you would feel hurt too,” she said.
The woman added that the painful incident became a major reason why she refused to depend on her husband financially and influenced her decision to continue working.
“I held back my tears at that moment. It was only RM5, but I can already see how terribly my husband might treat me if I stop working.”
Her story garnered much sympathy from netizens, who were repulsed by the man’s reaction towards his wife’s order.
A netizen who claimed to be a husband himself acknowledged that financial pressures exist, but added it was no excuse for the man’s harsh reaction.
Another netizen said financial matters can be discussed in a civil manner, saying that a wife doesn’t just need to be provided for, but she also deserves to be appreciated and have her feelings be acknowledged.
