THE Department of Health (DOH) reported Friday a 70 percent decline in Covid-19 cases compared to the same period last year.
In a statement, the DOH said only 1,532 cases were reported between Jan. 4 to July 11 this year compared to the 5,070 cases last year.
“While the number of reported cases remains low, the public is encouraged to continue practicing simple but effective health habits to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 and other respiratory illnesses,” the agency said.
Despite the decline, the agency assured the public that strict monitoring of the disease is ongoing.
The DOH warned the public that Covid-19 can manifest in various ways, ranging from completely asymptomatic cases to mild or even severe respiratory illnesses.
It added that the common symptoms include cough, sore throat, runny or clogged nose, shortness of breath, fever, and loss or change in taste or smell.
To prevent transmission, the DOH urged the public to regularly wash their hands with soap and clean water, cover the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and maintain overall proper hygiene in public areas.
