MANILA, Philippines —The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday advised residents to protect themselves against the ashfall from Mayon Volcano that has affected 20 villages in the Bicol region.

“Ashfall is dangerous to health,” the agency said in a statement, urging residents to wear safety goggles, face masks, and clothing that covers the arms and legs.

In January, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) raised Mayon Volcano to alert level 3 after observing intensified magmatic unrest.
