THE Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday issued a subpoena to Sen. Robin Padilla in connection with a complaint for alleged obstruction of the apprehension and prosecution of criminal offenders.
Padilla was ordered to appear before the DOJ Panel of Prosecutors on Sept. 25 and Oct. 9, 2026, at 2 p.m. and submit his counter-affidavit and supporting documents in response to the complaint.
Padilla confirmed receipt of the subpoena on a Facebook post on Tuesday, simply writing, “A subpoena has arrived.”
The PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group filed a complaint against Padilla and others in May for allegedly helping Sen. Ronald dela Rosa evade arrest.
The case stemmed from allegations that Padilla and others helped facilitate dela Rosa’s alleged escape following an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court in connection with the Duterte administration’s anti-illegal drug campaign.
Padilla earlier admitted that dela Rosa asked for a ride while he was leaving the Senate premises.
He argued that there was nothing wrong with it since dela Rosa was not a fugitive because there was no locally issued arrest warrant against him.
A police manhunt continues for dela Rosa, who was accused as a co-perpetrator of former president Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs that supposedly prompted extrajudicial killings.
