THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said Thursday it had intensified nationwide inspections of occupational safety standards in preparation for the influx of travelers on All Saints’ Day.
The review also covers wage payments, working conditions and workplace safety requirements.
DOLE said inspections had been completed at bus terminals in Baguio City and Pasay City, as well as maritime vessels in Batangas.
“DOLE must also conduct thorough inspections of ships to ensure they have the necessary equipment. Our sea vessels must be in proper condition,” Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino said in a statement.
Public construction projects in Basco, Mahatao, Uyugan, Ivana and Sabtang were also evaluated for compliance with occupational safety and health regulations.
In Bicol, DOLE conducted monitoring and inspection visits in three tourism establishments under its “Safe Work, Safe Tourism: Compliance as a Brand” campaign.
Inspection teams checked the facilities, spoke with employees and reviewed operational documents to assess workplace compliance.
DOLE held an inter-agency coordination meeting in Central Visayas to strengthen compliance with general labor standards and occupational safety and health standards in the transport and maritime sectors.
The meeting focused on coordinating actions among agencies to counter El Niño’s impact on operational safety.
