KOTA KINABALU: Siblings Khayr Akhtar Ummar Ariff and Muhammad Yahya Ummar Ariff are a beacon for Sabah golf after excelling at the 2026 Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) Golf Championship.
Muhammad Yahya triumphed in the Boys’ Under-12 category while Khayr Akhtar finished among the top eight in the Boys’ Under-15 category at the MSSM tournament, which was held at Sutera Harbour, Sabah Golf & Country Club and Nexus Golf Resort Karambunai from June 7 to 12.
The achievement marks the brothers’ continued dominance after both won their respective categories at the Sabah MSS Championship in May this year.
In addition to winning his individual category, Muhammad Yahya also brought pride to Sabah by helping the State secure fourth place in the Boys’ U-12 team event.
Speaking after the tournament, Muhammad Yahya told Daily Express that he is excited over the result and hoped to maintain the momentum to further elevate Sabah’s name on the international golf stage.
“Following the success achieved by my brother Khayr Akhtar and myself, we hope to continue this momentum in future tournaments.
“I will be competing in my category in Miri, Sarawak, in July, while my brother will be heading to Jakarta, Indonesia.
“Alhamdulillah, thanks to our training and the strong support from our parents, both of us managed to overcome this challenge successfully. We sincerely hope this success will continue in upcoming tournament series,” he said.
