Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) urges political parties contesting in the 15th General Elections to avoid installing campaign materials such as party flags or banners on poles, supply boxes, substations or other electrical installations.
Senior General Manager (Asset Management) Ir. Idris Mohd Noor said the act could invite danger with the risk of being electrocuted.
“Apart from electric shock, it can also cause electrical disturbances if an arca spark (flashover) occurs.
“SESB hopes that the public will always be careful because in the excitement of campaigning, sometimes we forget to take care of our own safety,” he said.
He added such act violates the provisions of Section 37 of the Electricity Supply Act 1990 (Act 447) which is damaging electrical installation.
According to Idris, SESB will always monitor and remove campaign materials displayed near or on electrical installations owned by SESB.
“The public is also advised to help report to SESB if they see any situation that may threaten safety and affect the electricity supply,” he said.
