Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) is taking steps to ensure stable electricity supply in Sabah and Labuan throughout the 15th General Election (GE15)

Its Chief Executive Officer Mohd Yaakob Jaafar said SESB has made preliminary preparations to ensure the electricity supply at the 26 nomination centres and official vote tallying centres throughout Sabah and Labuan is in good condition.

“SESB has made preliminary preparations in an effort to ensure the technical, operational and standby aspects of electricity supply in all the locations involved are always guaranteed throughout this election season,” he said in a statement, Tuesday.

He said SESB had also held a meeting with the Sabah State Election Commission (SEC) to discuss GE15 preparations and inform SESB of the steps taken to ensure that the company’s installation is always in good condition.

This is by working with the Public Works Department (JKR) to ensure that the internal wiring of the council under JKR’s jurisdiction, which includes the candidate nomination centre and the official vote tallying centre, is in an orderly and stable condition.

In addition, Mohd Yaakob said SESB will also conduct security checks by increasing the patrolling activities of the company’s auxiliary police officers and activating the operation room at the headquarters and all SESB regional offices throughout Sabah and Labuan.

“SESB will also provide standby teams at all locations and mobile gen-sets in critical areas,” he said.

At the same time, SESB will also collaborate with local government authorities (PBT), Sabah State Water Department (JANS), Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS), telecommunication companies and other related agencies to stop while work involving the excavation of land near the SESB installations.

This is to avoid the SESB cable being dug up following the work carried out by the contractor, especially during the period from Nov 5 to 19.

“This is to ensure continuous electricity supply. The SESB operation room will be opened on nomination aay (Nov 5) ballot casting day and official counting of votes (Nov 19) to ensure communication between SESB and certain parties can be managed more effectively,” he said.
