THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) will soon open a 1,000-capacity terminal in Quezon, featuring automated ticketing and solar energy systems.
The Port of Lucena is a primary hub for maritime routes to Marinduque, Masbate, and Romblon. The new facility is designed to increase passenger volume and improve transit efficiency for travelers in the Calabarzon region.
Transportation Secretary Banoy Lopez confirmed during an inspection that the terminal has a 1,000-seat capacity. The project follows a national directive to modernize maritime infrastructure.
The terminal incorporates automated ticketing counters to reduce manual processing times. Additionally, the PPA installed solar panels on the structure to provide renewable energy for its operations, aiming for long-term utility cost reduction.
PPA General Manager Jay Santiago stated that the larger passenger terminal building will mitigate overcrowding, particularly for passengers traveling to nearby island provinces. The design prioritizes organized traffic flow and increased seating to address previous capacity limitations at the port.
The DOTr intends to apply this terminal’s design specifications, specifically the automation and energy features to other port projects nationwide.
Operational dates will be announced once final technical tests are completed.
