Melbourne-based Malaysian artist Drewfunk returns to Malaysia with Eight (8), a solo exhibition at AweGallery that marks a new direction in his artistic practice. Running from 8 to 18 August 2026, the exhibition moves away from the narrative-driven works he is known for in favour of a series of intimate portraits rendered in his distinctive blue-and-white porcelain-inspired style.
The exhibition comprises four mixed-media paintings on canvas, each portraying a contemporary Malaysian creative whose work has influenced Drewfunk over the years. The featured subjects are internationally recognised artist Red Hong Yi, rapper Joe Flizzow, musician and producer SonaOne, and singer-songwriter Zamaera.
Rather than conventional portraits, the works explore the relationships and creative exchanges that have shaped the artist’s journey. Each figure is paired with one of the four classical elements—Earth, Water, Fire and Air—as well as one of the four seasons, creating a visual meditation on creativity, transformation and the rhythms of nature.

The exhibition’s title also reflects the artist’s personal connection to the number eight, which symbolises prosperity, harmony and abundance in Chinese culture. Four muses, four elements and four seasons come together to form the central concept behind the collection.
Eight (8) is Drewfunk’s 13th solo exhibition over a career spanning more than two decades and his second solo presentation in Malaysia. While his practice has long blended street art with fine art, this latest body of work places greater emphasis on portraiture and the people who have played a meaningful role in his creative development.
Curated by Ong Jian Yang, the exhibition will be on view daily from 11am to 8pm at AweGallery in Taman Paramount, Petaling Jaya, offering visitors an opportunity to experience a more personal chapter in Drewfunk’s evolving artistic practice.
