A MAN was killed after the Proton Saga he was driving reportedly lost control, entered the opposite lane and collided with a lorry at Kilometre 119.5 of the Kuantan–Johor Bahru road earlier today.

Rompin District Police Chief Superintendent Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi said the incident occurred at about 6.40am, involving the victim, identified as Mupais Razali, 28, who was travelling from Johor Bahru towards Pekan, while the lorry was heading from Nenasi towards Rompin.

“When it reached the scene, the lorry, which was travelling straight, was struck on the front right side by a Proton Saga that lost control and entered the opposite lane.

“As a result of the accident, the car driver died at the scene, while the lorry driver, the lorry passenger, and the car passenger did not sustain any injuries,” he said.

He added that the victim’s body was sent to Rompin Hospital for a post-mortem examination, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Preliminary findings indicated that the road at the location was straight with a flat surface, and weather conditions were good at the time of the incident.

“Initial investigations found that the accident was caused by the negligence of the car driver, who was careless while driving and entered the opposite lane, resulting in the collision,” he said. - March 25, 2026
