TWO relatives travelling on a motorcycle were killed in the early hours of the morning after a car reportedly lost control and veered into their path along Jalan Kluang–Teck Wah Hing.
The crash occurred at about 1am at Kilometre 6 of the road, claiming the lives of a 54-year-old rider and his 36-year-old pillion passenger, who were both pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Kluang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were travelling from Kluang town towards Taman Kluang Barat on a Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle when the collision occurred.
According to him, a Proton Saga driven by a 46-year-old woman was approaching from the opposite direction when it suddenly lost control, crossed into the motorcycle’s lane and collided with the two men.
“As a result of the collision, the motorcycle rider sustained severe head injuries and his left leg was severed at the calf. The pillion passenger suffered injuries to the head and body, with both victims pronounced dead at the scene,” he said in a statement today.
The car driver sustained only minor injuries to her right leg.
Bahrin said the woman was subsequently detained and taken to the Kluang District Police Headquarters for further action. A urine screening test conducted on the suspect returned negative for prohibited substances.
“Further investigations are ongoing and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. At the same time, the suspect will be remanded to assist with the investigation,” he said.
