A Tesla operating in Full Self-Driving mode crashed into an occupied California Highway Patrol vehicle on Interstate 80, injuring two officers.
The 22-year-old driver from Sacramento claimed he was asleep at the wheel at the time of the collision on 13 October.
The patrol car was struck despite the closed lane being clearly marked by flares, cones, and emergency flashing lights.
The California Highway Patrol warned that Full Self-Driving systems are not fully autonomous and require constant driver supervision.
Authorities have not yet announced what charges the driver could face following the incident.
