"Drug War: A Conspiracy of Silence," the upcoming prestige limited series from Rein Entertainment in collaboration with KC Global Media, drew strong reactions from members of the entertainment press at its first official pilot screening in Manila this week.
More than 50 members of the entertainment press attended the screening, with early reactions singling out the series’ production craft, depth of storytelling and strength of its ensemble performances.
Industry observers placed the series in conversation with Erik Matti’s "On the Job" on HBO and his Netflix series "BuyBust," as part of a small but growing canon of Filipino productions built to international standards. The pilot drew praise for its measured pacing, layered character work and emotional restraint, with its central themes of faith, guilt, conviction and survival landing with weight rather than spectacle.
Rein Entertainment previously produced the award-winning flagship series "Bagman," which streamed on iWantTFC and Netflix.
Anchored by Ian Veneracion as a priest in crisis and Jane Oineza as a policewoman with a conscience, alongside Harvey Bautista as the protégé at the heart of the mystery, the series features standout cast including Romnick Sarmenta, Yayo Aguila, Lotlot de Leon and John Arcilla, who received the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival.
