TAWAU: A 51-year-old mechanic who was charged with trafficking about 2kg syabu was ordered to enter his defence.

High Court Judge Datuk Dr Lim Hock Leng made the decision after finding that the prosecution had succeeded in proving a prima facie case against Tai Chee Kiong.

The court fixed Dec 5 for Tai’s defence.

Tai was accused of trafficking 199, 950.1gm of syabu at 7.30pm on Sept 6, 2021 in Kg Batu Payung.

The charge under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, carries a punishment of either the death penalty or life in prison and whipping with a minimum of 15 strokes.

Five witnesses testified during the trial on Nov 27 and 28.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Hurman Husain appeared for the prosecution while the accused was represented by counsel Darmin Acok.
