
TAWAU: A local suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol crashed into a RHB bank branch (pic) after hitting five vehicles along Jalan Mahkamah at 5am, Sunday.
Tawau Police Chief, ACP Jasmin Hussin said the 25-year-old was arrested to assist in investigations under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amendment 2020).
AdvertisementPolice received a report of the incident at 5.15am involving a Proton Saga car that lost control and skidded, hitting parked vehicles and the glass door of the bank.
“Initial investigations at the scene found that the driver was alone and driving from the city to his home in Tanjung Batu. The man did not have a driving licence and was driving under the influence of alcohol, causing the accident and property damage,” he said.

An 8-second video recording of the incident went viral on social media.

Keningau district police chief Superintendent Yampil Anak Garai said the damage was discovered by a security guard around 8am last Saturday, prompting a police report from a 42-year-old bank officer, as reported by Harian Metro.

He identified an injury on his hand, which he claimed as evidence that he may have struck the screen with his fist, and has agreed to pay compensation for the damage to the ATM.
Police confirmed that the suspect has no prior criminal record, though the cost of the damage is still being assessed.
In a separate incident, police advised the public to keep their emotions in check to avoid unwanted incidents, especially criminal intimidation.
This followed a case of road rage in Telipok town, Menggatal, about2.28pm on Saturday.
Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief ACP Kasim Muda said a 26-year-old man was threatened by an unknown male using a stick.
“Investigations found that while the complainant was driving home, the suspect, who was also driving, cut him off dangerously and almost collided with the complainant’s vehicle.
“The complainant, who panicked, honked. When he reached the lane into Telipok town, the suspect stopped his vehicle and blocked the complainant’s vehicle.
Kasim said the suspect then came down with a stick approximately 20 inches long, pointed it at the complainant, saying: “What’s the matter? It’s my right to drive fast, you better watch out”.
“The incident was circulated through a 36-second video on Tiktok by the complainant,” Kasim said, Sunday.
Investigations are ongoing under Section 506 of the Penal Code.
