Man driving under influence crashes into bank in Tawau

TAWAU: A 25-year-old local man suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol crashed into a bank and damaged five vehicles in an incident on Jalan Mahkamah here around 5am on Sunday.

District police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the man was arrested for investigation under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amendment 2020).

AdvertisementThe police received a report at 5:15 am regarding the accident involving a Proton Saga that lost control and hit parked vehicles before crashing into the bank’s entrance.

“Preliminary investigations revealed the accident occurred as the driver, travelling alone from the city centre to his home in Tanjung Batu, lost control of his car.

No injuries were reported, but five vehicles sustained minor damage.
