MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Friday said it was considering another round of financial aid if fuel price increases continue..
In a press conference in Manila, DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said the P5,000 in cash assistance currently being distributed to different transport groups under its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program was only the first phase of the government’s initiative to ease the burden of rising fuel costs on Filipino drivers.
“This is not going to be limited to one round, it's going to be multiple rounds. In fact, that's why I'm circling around to see the issues on the ground, because right after Holy Week, there will be a special payout schedule for those who were not included in the first round, so that they can also be given, and then we'll immediately move on to the second round already,” he said.
