THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has extended financial and food assistance to the family of motorcycle taxi rider Fabio Norberte Jr., who was stabbed to death by a passenger in Caloocan City on July 14.
“The DSWD extends its deepest condolences to the family of the slain motorcycle-taxi rider, and our National Capital Region Field Office immediately provided initial assistance after learning that he was a solo parent with a child on the autism spectrum,” DSWD Assistant Secretary and spokesman Irene Dumlao said. The DSWD provided P10,000 in cash assistance and one family food pack to the victim’s sister, who accepted the aid on behalf of the bereaved family.Also, the agency informed the family that funeral assistance will be extended through a guarantee letter, while medical and other financial assistance may be availed of under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program. Police said the victim was allegedly attacked with an ice pick by his passenger while transporting the suspect, who reportedly fled with the victim’s motorcycle. “In accordance with the directive of Secretary Rex Gatchalian, the DSWD stands ready to provide additional interventions to help the family of the slain motorcycle-taxi rider as they cope with their grief and address their immediate needs,” Dumlao said, adding that the agency will continue to coordinate with the family to facilitate access to available government assistance and other support services. The DSWD reiterated its commitment to providing timely aid to families affected by crises through its various social welfare and emergency assistance programs.
