THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), through its E-Commerce Bureau, has partnered with TikTok Philippines' online shopping platform, TikTok Shop, to promote responsible e-commerce among online sellers.

"The collaboration with a private e-commerce stakeholder such as TikTok Shop is a key initiative of the government to continuously enhance the skills and services of online sellers, including their awareness of their obligations and liabilities under the Internet Transactions Act and other regulatory requirements,” E-Commerce Bureau director Eryl Royce Nagtalon said in a statement on Friday.

TikTok Shop head of public policy Yves Gonzalez said the partnership would help achieve the online platform's goal of building a more robust e-commerce sector.

"Both TikTok Shop and DTI ECB recognize the positive change and impact that ongoing learning brings to our sellers, contributing to a vibrant and future-proof e-commerce ecosystem," he added.

The two parties signed a memorandum of understanding last Jan. 26 to help sellers better understand Republic Act (RA) 11967 or the Internet Transactions Act of 2023.

RA 11967 requires online consumers to exercise diligence in transactions and defines remedies for online consumers in case of defects, malfunction or loss of purchased products.

The ECB and TikTok Shop will provide webinar sessions, short educational videos, and learning modules for merchants.
