Duterte’s arrest warrant should not affect impeachment — prosecution

MANILA, Philippines — The arrest warrant issued against Vice President Sara Duterte should not affect the separate impeachment proceedings against her, House prosecution Rep. Terry Ridon said Friday.

“The impeachment proceedings are a separate constitutional accountability process,” Ridon said.

He said the Senate Impeachment Court would independently determine the matters properly before it, while Duterte would have the opportunity to present her defenses before the proper court.

“No one should prejudge either proceeding,” Ridon said.

The Quezon City Regional Trial Court issued the arrest warrant against Duterte in connection with the grave threats cases filed against her.
