A woman claims her sister faced a troubling e-hailing ride in Sabah, where a driver allegedly demanded her BUDI95 subsidy before prematurely ending the trip.

A local woman has taken to social media to detail her sister’s harrowing experience with an e-hailing driver in Sabah, who allegedly coerced her into using her Budi95 petrol subsidy to refuel his vehicle.

“Being a young woman travelling alone from university, she complied because what else could she do? She was in a moving car, and the driver was driving like a maniac,” the woman claimed in a viral Threads post.

According to the account, the student paid RM35 using her subsidy for the driver’s petrol, in addition to the standard fare. She initially assumed the driver would reimburse her, which he reportedly failed to do.

The situation allegedly took a more sinister turn when the driver marked the journey as “complete” on the app despite being far from the intended destination.

He then continued to drive aimlessly without the use of GPS, forcing the student to manually provide directions.

Fearing for her safety, the student initiated a video call with her sister.

“Only when he heard me on the video call did he stop talking or rather, stop my sister from correcting his route and started driving like a sane person,” the woman said.

She further added that once the driver realised a third party was watching, he “suddenly” knew the way to the destination without any navigational assistance.

“It was as though he wanted to test my sister to see if she knew the way or not,” she said.

Upon reaching the vicinity of her home, the student alighted from the vehicle prematurely out of fear, despite being some distance from her actual drop-off point.

The incident has since been reported to the e-hailing platform. Following the traction of the viral post, the company responded in the comments section, stating that the case is currently under “active investigation”.

“As a woman, I know the issue is not the money or the fuel, but her safety. She is traumatised now,” the sister said.

Netizens have since urged the family to lodge a formal police report, citing the gravity of the driver’s actions, particularly the premature completion of the ride on the app, which effectively disabled the platform’s real-time tracking features.
