KUALA LUMPUR: An e-hailing driver was sentenced to three days in jail and fined RM6,000 for driving against traffic. The offence occurred along Jalan Klang Lama and went viral on social media.

Magistrate Tg Syazwany Yasmyn Tuan Roslan handed down the sentence after Wong Kok Kong, 32, pleaded guilty. He was charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Wong admitted to driving a white Proton Saga recklessly and dangerously at 9.44 am. The court ordered his jail sentence to begin immediately.

He will serve an additional six months in jail if he fails to pay the fine. The court also suspended his driving licence for five years.

During mitigation, the unrepresented Wong said he was mentally unstable due to family problems at the time. Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurbatrisyia Mohd Razib conducted the prosecution.
