A driver recently made headlines for driving against the flow of traffic on Old Klang Road for 500 metres after a video of the incident circulated online.
The incident occurred yesterday (5 April), and on the same day, the police issued a statement confirming they were searching for the driver involved.
Arrest and investigation
In the latest statement released today (6 April), Kuala Lumpur JSPT Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, stated that the suspect arrived at the Kuala Lumpur JSPT office at approximately 8:35 PM last night. Upon his arrival, police officers immediately detained him to assist with the ongoing investigation.
Prior to the suspect turning himself in, authorities had made several efforts to locate him. Police teams visited multiple addresses linked to the individual, including family residences, but were unable to track him down at the time.
Breathalyser test result and further action
Following his detention, the suspect underwent both a breathalyser (EBA) test and a urine screening. Results from both tests returned negative, indicating that he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the incident.
Preliminary findings suggest that the incident was primarily caused by the suspect becoming disoriented and mistakenly entering the wrong lane while attempting to navigate towards Mid Valley.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers reckless and dangerous driving offences.
The suspect is expected to be formally charged at the Jalan Duta Court at 9 AM today, where further legal proceedings will determine the outcome of the case.
