E-hailing driver arrested after fatal SUKE crash that killed motorcyclist, with probe into reckless driving ongoing

PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a 26-year-old e-hailing driver after his car crashed into a motorcycle along the Sungai Besi–Ulu Klang Expressway (SUKE) yesterday evening, resulting in the rider’s death.

Kajang police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said the incident took place at about 5.56pm at Km0.3 of the highway. The 24-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Berita Harian.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the e-hailing driver, who was travelling from Kajang, was speeding and driving recklessly when his vehicle entered the Ampang exit.

“The car is believed to have overtaken another vehicle before colliding with the motorcyclist, who was travelling on the right side of the road,” he said.

Naazron added that the victim, a mechanic, died from severe head injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver has since been released on bail, and investigations are ongoing for causing death by reckless driving.
