Eala, Auger-Aliassime fall short in US Open mixed doubles opener

MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala and world No. 4 Felix Auger-Aliassime suffered a swift 1-4, 1-4 defeat at the hands of Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina in the opening round of the US Open mixed doubles on Tuesday night at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York.

Monfils and Svitolina put on a solid performance, leaving no room for Eala and Auger-Aliassime to gain momentum as they closed out a quick victory.

Eala will now shift her full focus to the singles event, where she enters as one of the seeded players.

Her campaign is expected to begin on August 30 or 31, depending on the official schedule released by tournament organizers. TMT
