ALEX Eala will now turn her attention to the grass season, where she is set to compete in several tournaments before heading to the Grand Slam event Wimbledon in London.
Eala’s clay season has come to an end following her early exit at the French Open in Paris. She suffered a 4-6, 2-6 defeat at the hands of her friend Iva Jovic in the first round of the singles competition.
Eala also did not see action in the doubles event, where she was originally set to partner with Victoria Mboko. The pair withdrew from the doubles draw of the French Open, although no clear reason has been disclosed.
With this, Eala will now focus on her preparations for the grass season starting next week.
She will open her campaign at the Birmingham Open, scheduled from June 1 to 7 in Birmingham. The tournament is a WTA 125 event, where Eala enters as the No. 2 seed, while Janice Tjen holds the top seed.
Eala is aiming for a stronger showing this year after a disappointing run in the same tournament last year, where she bowed out in the first round following a 5-7, 7-6, 1-6 loss to Linda Fruhvirtova.
After the Birmingham Open, Eala will compete in the Ilkley Open from June 8 to 14, followed by the Nottingham Open from June 15 to 20, both in England.
She will then return to the Eastbourne Open from June 21 to 29, also in England, where she previously enjoyed a strong campaign by reaching the finals. However, she settled for a runner-up finish after losing to Maya Joint.
Wimbledon will take place from June 29 to July 12 in London. Eala has previously expressed that Wimbledon is her favorite among all Grand Slam tournaments.
