Filipino tennis sensation Alex Eala’s impressive run at the US Open continues with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Oleksandra Oliynykova of Ukraine early Friday (Manila time) at the Louie Armstrong Stadium to advance to the third round.
Eala started the first set strong, taking an early 4-0 lead and never looked back.
Oliynykova tried to rally in the second set as she managed to tie the score at 3-all but Eala retaliated with back-to-back wins for a 5-3 lead. The Ukrainian made it 5-4 but the Filipina eventually won the next game to seal the victory.
Eala also scored a straight sets win over American Mary Stoiana, 6-1, 6-2 in the first round.
